Position: All Positions
Experience: Intermediate
Comments: Lifelong sailor, raised on Cape Cod, now out West. Lived and sailed in Long Beach, Ca 20+ years. Mostly recreational sailing and boat delivery. Thousands of miles covering, New England, East Coast, West Coast, Bahama's and the Caribbean. Looking for an opportunity to sail my first Transpac race. Looking for the right Skipper and boat, that is competitive, but is more concerned about the race experience, than the overall result. Since taking early retirement, it will allow me to devote whatever time is necessary to prepare for this race. I understand that I lack racing experience, but if necessary, I am willing to share in some of the overall expenses. Thanks

Position: Mast,Pit,Grinder,Jib Trimmer,Main Trimmer

Comments: I've been sailing for several years now; way more than a beginner but definitely not advanced. I do a good amount of racing here in San Diego on several different boats from 70' schooners all the way down to 21' sloops with a majority of work coming on board a 38' sloop. I'm easy to get along with and take direction well. The Transpac is an experience that I would absolutely love to be a part of.

I have Marine Basic First Aid and a course called MED-A2 which is the commercial equivalent of Safety at Sea (not sure if they'd accept that...) I could take Safety at Sea if necessary. Looking forward to sailing with you!

Comments: Hi there, I'm 30 years old and very fit. I've worked on vessels in Australia, Thailand, and Hawaii; however, most of my relevant sailing experience is with 60ft Cat's on Maui. I have mostly near shore experience and minimal open ocean; unfortunately, I do not have any competitive sailing experience. I'm able to fill any and all positions and have no problem taking the less savory roles as my experience compared to others seems to be lesser haha. My attitude is very relaxed but acute, and I take direction very well; I can get along with anyone and promise to bring a positive and uplifting attitude to the crew. I am open to returning the vessel post-race as well. Please feel free to reach out for a more detailed sailing resume and any other questions. Cheers

Position: Jib Trimmer,Main Trimmer,Helm

Comments: I will be 60 yo in '19 and saw my first Transpac as a 10 yo in Hawaii in 1969. It has been a lifelong goal to participate in the race and the 50th, after seeing Passage, Kialoa, Ondine, etc. on Transpac row 50 years ago, seems like a good time to finally go for it. I have been sailing/racing since that time, learning to sail on a Cal 20 while in Hawaii, with time off the water approx. 35 years experience. I have competed in various boats from Sunfish, J24, and other keelboats in offshore and inshore racing along the west coast of Florida since the late 80's. Participant in national and regional championships along with one SORC campaign. Currently helm a J35 but spent considerable time as main trimmer along with jib/spin trim. Have worked all positions and willing to work wherever I am best for the boat. I am willing to travel for weekend training as often as possible around work schedule. Preference is for a performance boat looking to a class/overall win competitive plan.

Comments: HI, I’m 35 years old, very active and fit, work in Marketing and looking forward to this race! I truly enjoy working in a group setting which is what sailing is all about! I also prioritize safety and staying on the boat above anything else, which helps ensure everyone has a good time. As for Sailing Experience, I’ve just completed a leg of the Clipper Round The World ocean race – leg 3 across the Southern Ocean. So I have ample overnight sailing experience and managing a large crew with a multitude of different tasks onboard, flying spinnaker, helming, sail trim, etc. Living in Vancouver, Canada (I'm a US Citizen) I’ve done most of the VARC (Vancouver/Victoria) overnight and day races – Swiftsure, Southern Straights, Fraser Lightship, Round Bowen etc. I also sail on Wednesday nights with Royal Van on the Martin 242 and various boats on Thursdays nights. I’ve owned a Beneteau First 285 and also raced it and cruised it regularly. As for qualifications, I have OFFSHORE SAFETY COURSE, SMALL CRAFT SEA SURVIVAL COURSE, COMPETENT CREW and my 5,000 mile Southern Ocean crossing with Clipper. Cheers, Damien

I have raced San Diego to Ensenada, Newport to Ensenada, Newport to San Diego and around the Coronado Islands multiple times. I have sailed San Diego to La Paz. I have transited Long Beach and Newport Beach to Catalina multiple times. I have raced in and around the San Diego area on many boats including a tall square rigger, Solings, J/105s, Beneteaus, Columbia 50, Tripp 40 and others. I have owned and maintained numerous boats ranging from 14 to 38 feet. I will perform whatever duties are needed from me, respect the chain of command, stay calm under pressure, optimistic always, and work well with others in a team setting. I look forward to hearing from you and making this the best Transpac ever. Thanks!

Comments: My name is Tom and I've been racing around the Great Lakes, East Coast, Europe and Caribbean for the past 10 years. I've worked on Hugo Boss IMOCA 60, Volvo 60 EDC4, Volvo 70 Giacomo and the new Swan 78 to name a few large sailboats I've sailed on. I've got 40,000 nautical miles on the Atlantic Ocean, Tasman Sea as well as the Great Lakes and Mediterranean but seriously looking at racing on the West Coast for a bit. I am now very interested in competing in the TransPac race coming up in July. I will also be available for the delivery back to California or elsewhere and or other races. Although it is coming up soon, I feel with my experience, CV and references - I am up to snuff and would be valuable to any racing team for this event. Hopefully will be doing a Class 40 TransAt race on March 23rd leaving the Caribbean. I will be competing in the Bermuda 1-2 Race, doing the double handed race back on a Pogo 12.50 that I skippered from France to Antigua this winter. That would conclude around the 25th of June for me and then I could be in full swing for the TransPac preparations. At the moment I am in Antigua participating in the races around the Caribbean this time of year. I'm used to and comfortable working on large carbon racing machines, but also have lots of time on mid range racing boats. If there is any potential for a spot, delivery work or shore crew I would love to hear about it, Please email tgayford@hotmail.com for full CV and Reference list.

Comments: This will be my 23rd race to Hawaii - have logged 7 Transpacs, 14 Pacific Cups and one Singlehanded Transpac. I've navigated division winners in 2000 and 2012, and second place finishes in '82, '85 and '14. Three of the races were on the Frers 58 Swiftsure, where I was also Watch Captain in '82. Three races were on Santa Cruz 52s, one race was on a 60 ft schooner, and the Singlehanded Transpac (and singlehanded return to SF) was on my Merit 25. My preferred M.O. on big boats is to sail as a non-watch-standing navigator. That way I can stay up all night and negotiate squalls. With the synoptic wind forecasts getting better all the time, and everyone using essentially the same route optimization software, the big variable is squall strategy, for which Expedition is of little help. There's still a lot of art here, and that's my favorite part of the game. Sea Survival certified, naval architect (Webb and U.C. Berkeley), and I write a column for a sailing magazine. I've designed and built several economical and lightweight emergency rudders that have passed Transpac requirements. Can do all positions, except I'm getting a little too old for foredeck. Full sailing CV available on request. I think both Stan Honey and John Jourdane would put in a good word for me.
