I previously submitted this protest through the US Sailing Racing Rules app on my iPhone within the time limit provided in the notice of race.
Apollo is protesting Laura Bea for a rule 18.3 violation at the Windward Mark. Laura Bea was several boat lengths clear ahead and leeward of Apollo (both boats on starboard tack). Laura Bea was short of the lay line to the mark. Apollo was slightly above the lay line. Laura Bea tacked to port and crossed Apollo’s bow then tacked again within the Zone. Apollo became overlapped to leeward of Laura Bea inside the zone. Laura Bea headed down to the mark on a collision course with Apollo. Apollo hailed “leeward” and “ head up” to Laura Bea which did not heed the warning, did not give Apollo mark
Room and forced Apollo to bear off and gybe around without rounding the mark to avoid a collision with Laura Bea. Apollo immediately hailed “protest” to Laura Bea and flew a red flag when fouled.
