Fall Series cancelled due to Hurricane Lee -

Dear Off Soundings Racers,

The board has decided to cancel the Fall Series to Greenport due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Lee. Despite the uncertainty of Lee's exact landfall, it is heading north and presents a challenge to the Southern New England coastline, the Gulf of Maine and Eastern Canada. Forecast winds in the 30's and 40's, heavy swells in Gardiner's Bay and the need for advance warning to make necessary arrangements to protect boats and sailors required making the decision 72 hours in advance. 

Over the next few days, we ask you to consider donating your paid entry fees  to the Off Soundings Club treasury to help support the club in future endeavors.

If you would prefer a refund, contact Treasurer Steven Marenakos at smarenakos@gmail.com and he will credit your Paypal account.

Hurricane Lee Watch -

Greetings, Racers! Hurricane Lee is likely to make our lives more complicated over the next few days. We are watching it and I would advise you to find your favorite weather outlet and keep an eye tuned yourself. NOAA.gov is a good place to start and You Tube is filled with many weather prognosticators who are deep into the scientific information that is available. 

The Race Committee and Flag Officers of the club are in discussions and will be making a decision on Wednesday afternoon no later than 5 pm about the status of the Fall Series to Greenport. Be patient and be assured we are concerned about the safety of the fleet and the feasibility of enjoying a full weekend of racing. Watch your email and text for any announcements.

Meanwhile, skippers should receive your Sailing Instructions and Party Tickets in the mail within a day or so.
