From the PRO: Thursday AM RC intentions -

Good morning!

Weather forecast for our area has not changed much overnight, we are expecting some good racing conditions with winds out of the NE.  We plan to setup the race course in the same vicinity as yesterday.

We intend to run 3 races today.  Hopefully we’ll have you back to the harbor so everyone can get hauled out, showered and spiffed up for our Final Awards Party!

Thanks for coming to Annapolis, and for being patient through the various weird challenges that Mother Nature has thrown at us this week.

For the race committee,

Sandy Grosvenor (PRO)

2018 J/22 Worlds - Wednesday Competitors Party Update to Schedule & Chalk Talk -

Compeptitors - as announced on the VHF by the PRO, we are moving the opening of the Mid Week Competitors party at the Annex tents up to 5pm from 6pm.  Cash bar will be open at 5pm with the open bar of Two Hearted Ale and Flying Dog Dogtoberfest and Tito's Vodka from 5:30-6:30pm.  We'll have great food to fill up your crew with a menu including:

Chopped & Tossed Tamale Salad with Chipotle Ranch Dressing, Warm Chicken enchilada style dip with sour cream and avocado puree, Salted corn tortilla chips and jalapeno tomato salsa, black bean and cheese quesadillas with cilantro cream, bbq glazed meatballs and Chef's famous ode to the Bay, Chesapeake Chicken wings with blue cheese dressing.

Once the crowd has gathered, North Sails reps will give a post-race debrief thanks to tonight's beer sponsor, New England Ropes!  Official Worlds merchandise will be available at the Helly Hansen Team One Newport tent.  T2P Productions will work their magic and broadcast video from today's racing on the monitor in the tent.

See you there!

12/Sep/2018 @ 07:55AM

From the PRO: Wednesday Morning RC Intentions -

Good morning,

We expect to set up a bit farther out and a bit farther south today.   About 1 1/2 miles from the yellow dolphins on a bearing of 155.  OR head for R”2” and stop about 1/2 mile before you get there.

If the wind and waves cooperate, we intend to run 4 races today, so be ready for another long day on the water.

Be advised that we expect a lot of debris in the water as the Conowingo Dam had her flood gates open yesterday.  There is, unfortunately, nowhere we can go to avoid that debris field.

Don’t forget our competitors’ party with the North Sails debrief sponsored by New England Ropes - in the Annex Tent.  We will make sure the party does not start before you get back ashore.

The morning updates on Hurricane Florence has her track narrowing in on the Carolinas... good news for us, and, sadly, bad news for the Carolinas.

Our really hard-working Regatta Manager, Linda Ambrose, will have the haul-out plan for you after racing today.  Say “Thanks” to Linda - she is paid staff, but she has gone way above and beyond for this event.

11/Sep/2018 @ 08:09PM

From the PRO: SI Amendment #2 -

While the forecast for Florence more and more indicates that she is likely to stay south of our area and have minimal impact, we believe it prudent to commit to finish up the regatta a day early.

The attached SI amendment therefore changes the schedule to 10 races total, finishing on Thursday.

The Awards Banquet and Trophy Presentation will be moved to Thursday night. The exact timing is still to be determined.

Information about haul-out procedures will be posted by the end of racing on Wednesday.

11/Sep/2018 @ 06:32PM

From the PRO: RC Scoring Actions, day 1 -

In Races 1,2, and 3 - there were no RC scoring actions.

In Race 4, the following boats will be scored UFD:  64, 52, 44, 01, 26

10/Sep/2018 @ 04:53PM

From the PRO: SI Amendment 1 released -

SI 5.4 (b) and (c) in the SCHEDULE OF RACES, are deleted. SI 5.4 now reads as follows:

(a) 11 races are scheduled.
(d) A maximum of 4 races may be sailed in one day, except that a maximum of 2 races may be sailed on Friday unless more are required to constitute a championship.

10/Sep/2018 @ 11:08AM

From the PRO: Practice Race Location -

Good afternoon!

This the first of your "two hour before warning" daily announcements.

For today's practice race, the RC expects to set up the starting area approximately 1/2 nm from the "yellow dolphins" (on the north side of the Severn, near the mouth of the river) on a bearing of 150 degrees.   In other words, sail out the river and you should see us.   Your signal boat is a 42' trawler named "Road Trip".

We expect an on time warning signal for the practice race.

Sandy Grosvenor, PRO
