From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Friday @ 09:40AM - The week has not seen much jury action from Div 2 competitors. Yesterday in the Melges 32 class, Shakedown retired after finishing. From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Friday @ 09:36AM - Discussions have occurred about weather and number of races have concluded that our intent to run two races today. From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Friday @ 08:35AM - Good morning from Key West Harbor. The schedule has been moved up 30 minutes today so the first warning signal will sound at 1000 hours.

Today is Industry Partners Day. Final awards will be given out tonight.

From the RC Headquarters - Friday @ 08:12AM - Good Morning and Welcome to Industry Partners' Day Five and final day of Key West Race Week presented by Nautica. We are jumping right into the day with an 0800 harbor start and 1000 first warning and hopes to complete three races. Will be a solid day of sailing! We experienced a passing shower earlier this morning which lightened the breeze (9-13 kts,) however, we expect it to freshen. No fog, little to no haze and a lot of sunshine will all support a stronger wind in the afternoon (10-15 kts between 1300 - 1500est.) The right is looking favored and the folks from Commanders' weather advise the chance of showers increases into the afternoon, which is more of an impact to break-down. Sailing conditions on a whole should be warm, sunny and best sailing conditions of the week. Cheers, Jennifer/RC HQ

From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Thursday @ 11:32AM - Melges 32 warning signal at 1130. Class will start at 1135.

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 11:29AM - The Mini Maxi warning is at 1130. The course is set -- #4 (W-L x 2). The bearing is 090. WM1 is 1.7nm ( classes A, B, and C) and WM2 is 1.4nm (classes D and E). Wind speed is around 6kts.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 11:25AM - It is our intention to postpone at 11:30. We just can't see the end of the start line. There is enough wind! Focus on the positive!

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 11:21AM - Some boats are doing a duck call and RC is repeating our location periodically along with an occasional signal.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 11:20AM - Boats are finding us and checking in. Our fog circle gets bigger and then smaller. Right now, the fog is getting thinner, but has closed in to about 3 boat lengths.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 11:20AM - We are seeing wind on the windward side of 080 and 6 knots. Our start line is usually 320 yards due to the number of boats in a class and the length of the boats. We have to be able to clearly see boat sail numbers and bow numbers during the start. The fog has to lift enough to give us that visible line. Winds at 040 4-4.5k

From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Thursday @ 11:18AM - Race committee has posted Course 4 for Race 6, bearing 100, distance to weather mark for Melges 32 class will be 1.3 nm; for the Melges 24 and J 105 classes distance to weather mark is 1.0.

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 11:04AM - We just got a report from Race Headquarters that the fog has cleared on the beach, so hopefully that will be coming our way. It has improved somewhat and we can clearly see the pin end of the line - 700 feet away. We are setting the windward marks at 095. wind speed is 6-7.

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 10:54AM - We are now seeing wind from 090-095 at teh Signal Boat. The visibility is such that can barely see the pin boat.

From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Thursday @ 10:51AM - Fog is still pretty thick, but the sun is trying to burn it off. There is some breeze, easterly. Boats are beginning to check in.

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 10:51AM - We are starting to see competitors arriving through the fog. The RC44 Ironbound just sailed by and is moving very nicely, so we do have wind.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:40AM - Today's rule quiz: What is the proper signal when an RC anchors in the fog?

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:37AM - The sun is trying to push though; 4.8k wind. I still can't see land. Photographs are going to be very interesting

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 10:35AM - The Division 1 signal boat is on station at N 24 30.931 and W 081 51.497. Wind direction is 080. Wind speed is 8 knots and the seas are flat - wave height about 6 inches. And the sun continues to burn through, but visibility is around 70 yards.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:35AM - We are getting ready to anchor.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:34AM - With the fog, we are setting up courses based upon gps locations instead of bearing and line of sight. We are around 24 30.9 081 45.7. We are still moving to figure out the best position. An announcement of our location is being broadcast to the competitors so they can find us in the fog.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:29AM - Our RC members are very experienced sailors and racers. The fog is bringing out the stories of near misses, close calls, and worst conditions.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:23AM - Our earliest warning signal will be 11:30. In this fog, we are running radar and doing our proper fog horn interval. The sun is trying to push through, but I still don't see any land.

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 10:22AM - We are starting to see the sun burn through the fog. But it's still pretty thick - visibility is about 50 yards.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:21AM - The fog is pretty pervasive out here. I can only see about two boat lengths away. Key West land does not exist. Hopefully, the fog will continue to burn off and we will be able to see our pin end after we anchor. There is breeze out here, about 4ish, but it is always hard to really tell when we are underway. Our weather boats are getting into their zones to be able to check wind.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:16AM - Today is Sperry day. Sperry is a great sponsor. This year's shoe is a gray with bright stitching. There are mesh panels so it breathes, and supportive strapping along with a protective toe cover. Even though it is a dark color, it is a no-mark, no color bleed design. And, of course, the bottom tread is designed to keep you on deck in wet weather.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Thursday @ 10:14AM - Good morning! After a 1.5 hr on shore delay, we are heading out to set up a course. I hope everyone turns on their fog lights.

From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Thursday @ 10:10AM - Good morning. We have had a one-hour delay due to fog this morning and are just now heading out to the race course. Today is Sperry Topsider day.

The first warning will not be sounded before 1130. We hope to sail 2 races today.

At the completion of Race 6, there will be a throw out for racers in the Melges 32 and Melges 24 fleets. That may change some of the standings.

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 10:08AM - Gate Boat is reporting 8 kts. Still very foggy. We will broadcast our position to the fleet when we get to our starting location.

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Thursday @ 10:00AM - Good Morning Race Fans, Today is Sperry Topsider Day. The Div 1 Signal Boat is heading out to the course circle after an on shore postponement. There will be a 1000 harbor start. We still have quite a bit of fog out here - hoping it will burn off soon. Wind readings from our Gate Boat is 6 kts from 080 with steady flat water.

From the RC Headquarters - Thursday @ 09:51AM - Good News! Just in from Peter, Harbor Start at 1000 with first gun at 1130. RC is out on the race course experiencing a steady 7 knots out of the East with a lifting fog. If the breeze is solid and holds into the afternoon, expect RC to go for two races.

From the RC Headquarters - Thursday @ 08:30AM - Good Morning! Today is Sperry Top-Sider Day Four of Key West Race Week Presented by Nautica! We are currently delaying the Harbor Start by 60 minutes with updates made every half an hour starting at 0830. The cause of this delay is the weak upper level gradient which is showing a loft of +/- 10 knots. Combine that with a thick off-shore fog and we have zero sailable breeze. The expectation from George of Commanders' Weather is for the sun to burn through over the morning hours and best breeze developing between 1130-1200H. He advised us that breeze should begin to fill in within an hour after the fog lifts and the RC has sent a boat out to observe conditions on the race course and will report if the fog lifts sooner or later. It's the intention of the RC to race today and if the winds fill in and hold, the potential for a two race day does exist and plan accordingly. In addition, there was discussion on three races for Friday and expect an early Harbor Start, which will be announced later today. Otherwise, enjoy the morning and stay tuned! Jennifer/ RC HQ

From the RC Headquarters - Wednesday @ 08:44AM - Good Morning! Today is Mount Gay Rum Day Three of Key West Race Week Presented by Nautica and it is a warm and humid start. We are experiencing island temps in the low 70s with 97% humidity and areas of patchy fog. After meeting with "Mr. Weather" (aka George Caras from Commanders' Weather,) he shares that if the sun shines, fog and clouds clear, the upper level breeze will drop and mix with the lower level - giving us the best wind from 0930-1200. We are looking at 6-7 out of the S/SW. It is the RCs intention to hold at the very least, one race this morning. Looking ahead to later in the day, in the event only a few classes get a complete race in or there is no racing across the board we ARE dishing out awards/bottles of Rum this evening. The impressive collection of Rum will be raffled off to each Class and therefore, to participate and WIN, you must be present. More on this as the day progresses... Ideally - Lets go sailing! - Jennifer/RC HQ

From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Tuesday @ 09:59AM - Racers are checking in then backing their boats to get rid of sea grass that may have snagged on their keels and rudders...that was an issue yesterday, especially with the big island of sea grass that appeared out of nowhere on the finishing line at the end of the first race for the Melges 32 fleet particularly. There is grass all over, too.

The wind right now is still from the south at 180 to 190, with about 8 knots of velocity.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Tuesday @ 09:26AM - The Weather Wizard (he definitely doesn't guess) for Key West Race Week is George from Commanders' Weather Corp. He predicts winds shifting a little right, temperatures will be in the mid 70's, humidity is up due to yesterday's rain, and winds will stay in the 5-8 range peaking up to 10 this morning. Since our division has some of the smaller boats, light winds can still mean good racing!

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Tuesday @ 09:15AM - Our windward boats are reporting a 190 degree breeze at about 6k. It will be light and shifting right all day. We will get more wind when there are no clouds, so lets hope what little clouds we have move along.

From the RC KWRW Division 3 - Tuesday @ 09:10AM - Welcome to Day 2! Today is Lewmar/Navtec day. You all know I love my Lewmar One-Touch winch handle so much that I engraved my name on it to never lose it. I call it my "Grab-n-Go" It has survived three years of fun Chesapeake sailing without a nick.

From the RC KWRW Division 2 - Tuesday @ 09:04AM - Good morning. The Signal Boat has left the dock and is waiting for the morning report. It is a sunny morning, with breezes estimated at 14. It is Lewmar Day.

Div 2 intends to run 2 races today. The breeze may ease as the day progresses....but like always, we'll take what we get with the weather.

Heading out....

From the RC KWRW Division 1 - Tuesday @ 09:03AM - Good Morning Race Fans,

Welcome to Day 2 of KWRW 2011. This is the Division 1 Signal Boat heading out to the course circle. Today is Lewmar/Navtec Day. And it is a beautiful morning with the sun shining, the wind is around 8kts from 180-200. Seas are 1-2 feet. The weather report is for warm weather with the wind dropping to around 5 kts. The plan is to have 2 races today.

From the RC Headquarters - Tuesday @ 08:48AM - While there is a low pressure system off the Carolinas, delivering snow to much of the Northeast, we will not be seeing any of that here in the Keys. Instead, racers can expect the morning to offer up a decent Southerly breeze offshore at about 12-14 kts and dropping off to the single digits and clocking to the West by early to mid-afternoon. The timing of this change is not in stone, but Mr. Weather suggest sailors and RC to keep an eye out for this change by 1300H. Otherwise, clear skies, humid and temps working towards 80 degrees by afternoon! We'd like to think the sun would dry everything out from yesterday's substantial rain fall, however, it's nearly 100% humidity projected for day! More to come... Jennifer/RC HQ
